Patrick Layden, a McAlester attorney, has been elected to serve as the Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma president for 2010. Layden, who represents the Pittsburg County Bar Association on Legal Aid’s board, has been a member since 2002 and, prior to that, served on the board of Legal Services of Eastern Oklahoma. He practices law in Pittsburg County and is a third-generation attorney in the McAlester area. “I have always been interested in the preservation of our legal system,” Layden said. “To maintain justice in America, we must have access to the courts and justice for all, including the less fortunate in terms of financial ability. LASO gives the indigent and poor a more level playing field to assert their rights and protections guaranteed to all by our system of laws. I am proud to be able to assist in my role as president of this worthwhile organization.” Attorney Eleanor Thompson, Oklahoma City, was elected vice-president, and Lucille Logan, Oklahoma City, was elected secretary-treasurer. Thompson represents the Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers and Logan represents the Northeast Area Council of Oklahoma County. Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma is a not-for-profit law firm which provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and their families and to elderly persons. Legal Aid attorneys work through LASO’s 21 law offices and satellite offices, serving clients in Oklahoma’s 77 counties.
